Shadow Structure Experiments
As a practical starting point for the development of our 'Structure and Invisible' lines installation, we wanted to experiment with shadows and line based sculptures. We used some simple models made by Emily to undertake initial experiments in the studio exploring light and shadow. Printed acetates with dot and line patterns were used to enhance the shadow images.
We decided to develop these models and produce more refined structures using acrylic rod, glue, wire and the printed acetate.
These small structures proved quite tricky and expensive to make, so three small examples were produced to undertake more elaborate experiments in the Theatre.
We experimented with video projection, moving motors, space, setting and lights to discover the full potential of these structures. However although some results were quite pretty, none encapsulated our ambitious vision for the final event.
The visual impact seemed limited and we felt we had lost our depth of ideas and a sense of a narrative, instead becoming more a functional part of the space. We realised we needed to reconnect with our initial ideas about journeys, audience experience and meaning. See ideas blog
