The costume for Pupi part II was inspired by my visits to the Alexander McQueen exhibitions Savage Beauty at the V&A and Nick Waplington/Alexander McQueen: Working Process at The Tate Britain. In particular his final collection which was inspired by the notion of waste, recycling, beauty and the fashion industry. I liked his play on fabrics which were hugely expensive and yet looked likes bin bags. Also the iconic red lips which were quite ugly, extreme and clown like.
I constructed the costume from a white lab coat. This linked well to the aspects of eugenics discussed in the piece and gave a bizarre combination of science, health and fashion to which issues surrounding pedigree dogs are entangled.
The hat included a dog bone treat, the pockets had added fur as if from a dog and the ruffs added to the extreme fashion style and links with clowning.
